The red thyme essential oil is extracted from Thymus vulgaris, a perennial herb and a member of the mint family, and largely produced in France and Spain.

It has a strong herbal scent with a spicy hint. It is mainly used in aromatherapy, cooking, creating potpourri, as well as incorporating it in elixirs and ointments.
